Mobile Chromatic Instrument Tuner

Show the frequency of a sound played on an instrument, generate tones.

About

Mobile Chromatic Instrument Tuner is a Java application (J2ME midlet) for Java-enabled mobile phones designed to help instrument players to tune their instruments.

Mobile Chromatic Instrument Tuner is an experimental software. It uses very sophisticated algorithms to discover the fundamental sound frequency. It was tested with violin, piano and guitar. The supported frequency range is 50-1100Hz.

The application contains also a tone generator.

How does it work?
  1. Place the phone near the instrument. Make sure that the microphone is clean. The measurement correctness strongly depends on your microphone quality.
  2. Start the tuner.
  3. Play the note for a few times using your instrument.
  4. The tuner displays the frequency of the played note, the nearest note from the chromatic scale and its frequency.
  5. Tune the instrument and try again.
Supported phones

The application supports the newest Nokia S60 phones (E series, N series and touch screen devices). There is also a version for all BlackBerry smartphones with OS 4.5 or higher.

Shades, noise, quality

If the note is displayed in the light shade of grey, that means the microphone recorded a lot of noise. Higher quality samples are marked by a dark grey colour.
