The application works on Nokia Symbian touch screen and QWERTY devices. Standard phones using Java (J2ME) technology, BlackBerry smartphones and Kindle devices are also supported.

Basics

To move between cells, use the arrows, the trackpad, the trackball or (if you have a touch screen-device) tap the cell with your finger. To edit the cell, press the button between the arrows or click the trackpad/trackball and choose "Edit Cell" from the main menu that should appear. You can also start typing if your device has a QWERTY keyboard. The formulas should start with the "=" sign. Example: =(SUM(A1:A2)*2)+3.

If you are editing a cell and want to include a cell reference in the formula and you do not remember its address, please choose "Insert address". The application should show the sheet; it will wait until you select a cell by clicking on it. On touch-screen phones you can select a whole range using your finger.

Cell selection, cut, copy and paste

To select any range, please go to the cell where you want to start the range, press the middle button (or press the trackpad/trackball), select "Select, Copy, Paste..." -> "Selection Mode On" and go to the last cell. You can also select any range using your finger if your phone supports that. To cut or copy the selection, choose "Select, Copy, Paste..." -> "Cut" / "Copy". Choose "Paste" to paste the previously cut or copied area.

The application automatically recalculates relative references, so if you copy =A1+1 from A2 to A3, A3 will contain =A2+1. If you do not want the references to be recalculated, use absolute references (for example: =$A$1).

Formatting (colors, alignment, row and column sizes)

If you want to format a selection, select any range as described above, press the middle button (or click the trackpad/trackball) and choose "Format Cells". You can select wrap options and the text position (left/right/center). To change the text or the background color, please click on the appropriate button, choose the basic color (for example: yellow) modify it using the red, green and blue buttons. If you set any option to "no change", the application will not change this property of the cells (for example: "no change" for the text color will leave previously set color for all selected cells).

Charts

To insert a chart, please select the data range, click to show the menu, select "Chart..." -> "Add a New Chart". To change the chart location, please click on the "Chart Location button". Now select the "Start" or the "End" button and the application should show the sheet where you can select the upper-left ("Start") or lower-right ("End") corner of your chart.

You can choose the data for the chart to be in columns or in rows. "Data in columns" means that the first line will display the values from the first column; "data in rows" means that the first line will display values from the first row etc. If you set 1st Row/Column = Name to "yes", the application will display the data from the first row/column on the horizontal axis.

Opening and saving files

To save a file, go to the main menu and select "Open, Save..." -> "Save as a CSV File". Then you can save the sheet as a new file or you can choose some existing file. The CSV file will be saved in the "Pictures" folder of your mobile phone (that directory was chosen, because it is the only folder that is guaranteed to exist on all mobile phones).

To open a file, choose "Open a CSV File" and click on the file name. In some countries (e.g. France), MS Excel saves CSV (comma-separated files) as a semicolon-separated files. To open such files, please select "Format: 100,0;abc;25" instead of the default "Format: 100.0,abc,25".

To save any selection as a picture, please select a range, go to the main menu, select "Open, Save..." -> "Save selection as a Picture". You can then attach this picture to you email message.
